TWA Contributors and Executive ". . . I am thankful for a world where traveling 5,000 kilometers to caress a dying baby is not an extraordinary act but simply something to do in the month of May."

| Haiti All fundraising targets have contingency allowances as conditions and costs can fluctuate dramatically within the country. Project 1) The school sponsorship continues with Ecole Chretienne Pour le Development in Cite Soleil. This will involve the further purchase of land, construction of, and renovations to, the school buildings and facilities. In 2005 we completed construction of the kitchen facility in a new compound for the school. We have been working with the school since our second visit in 2004. The kitchen facility was hopefully going to spark a food program which has now been delayed due to the new priority set by the school administration which involves completing the new school compound in order to vacate the rented facility they occupied at the time. In May 2006 we completed the first phase of the renovations on the new building, rendering it habitable by the students. The school now has a place owned by the community but it needs further work. Our overall targets for this year involving Haiti. Cite Soleil School Sponsorship Program. $53,685.00 (CAN) Target - $22,455.00 (CAN) This target would allow the school administrators to complete the land purchase(s) and complete construction on the new school compound. There are approx. 280 students in the school who come from all over Cite Soleil and neighbouring communities. Ecole Chretienne is dedicated to providing education for the children of poor families regardless of religious belief, political affiliation, or financial ability. Target - $13,230.00 (CAN) This will allow us to subsidize the salaries of the five dedicated teachers, three Administrators and Principal who struggle to stay at the school. At present money runs out often and the teachers go unpaid which forces them to take time off to find work elsewhere to support their families. This target will also allow the subsidy of two cooks to assist with the food program. It is our hope that the woman who now cooks what she can for the students can start her own small business and perhaps expand the food program as a canteen for the community as a whole. But first we must feed the children. Target - $15,000.00 (CAN) This will allow the Administration to supply stable funding for the purchase of food for the food program. At present the students pay a modest amount of 5 - 10 gourd (13 - 26 cents) for a plate of food but not all students can pay this much. It is our hope that as funding comes in that this 5 - 10 gourd contribution from the families can go into a general fund for the school and all students can receive one hot meal each day of the school week throughout the school year. It is common for children to go three days or more without eating making learning impossible. Target - $3,000.00 (CAN) TWA Scholarship program which will help sponsor both elementary and high school students. This money would provide for 15 new students. Money covers tuition, books and elementary school uniforms. May 2006 Post Project Report (School construction project.) Project 2) General school supplies. TWA brings as many school supplies as possible. School backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers etc. Books suitable for all ages in French and English with an emphasis on French. Project 3) Medical supplies and hands on healing and care giving. There are three main locations. The Brother's medical clinic in the slum of Simon Pele. A facility called Wings of Hope which houses handicapped children and young adults who have been abandoned by their families or recommended by the Haitian Welfare system. The third is Mother Teresa's malnutrition clinic which houses babies and toddlers who are seriously malnourished and sick. Their parents cannot afford to feed them nor obtain medical assistance. All donations of medical goods are distributed according to need which is assessed through consultation while in Haiti. We bring medical supplies and basic items such as skin lotions, gloves, baby powder, bandages, hand sanitizer, over the counter medicines, etc. We also visit each day to give massages, bathe, clip nails, listen and talk, and anything else that is needed. At the malnutrition clinic we assist in regular diaper changes, feeding, and offering human contact. At Wings of Hope we assist in the physiotherapy program as well as feeding and general assistance according to what is needed. Canada No set target. All financial donations welcome to help sponsor young people to come on the trips. Volunteer Support Program) Financial donations can be given to TWA to sponsor part of the cost of the trip. Each trip costs approx. $1,200.00 (CAN) per person which covers airfare and accommodations. Despite the excitement of construction projects like the one in Cite Soleil it is this face to face encounter that remains the most vital aspect of our work. The challenge of young people confronting the realities of life in developing countries and challenging themselves as human beings. The spiritual exhilaration of dedicating oneself to two weeks of selfless effort. The one consistent factor in all of our trips is that each of the volunteers have stated that these trips changed their lives in a dramatic fashion. Jamaica No set target. All financial donations welcome. General Support Program) Ongoing support for Operation Restoration in Trench Town located in the capitol city of Kingston. Operation Restoration is a dynamic school facility run by Lorna Stanley who has built it from the ground up over the last decade. We first discovered the school on our 1998 trip and an emotional bond was instantly formed. Although we have not been to Jamaica since 2002 we wish to maintain our relationship with Lorna Stanley and her extraordinary work. To this end your donations can be targeted for her facility which then go towards building projects, scholarships, food programs etc.
